Winter 2018 - 2019 Highlights

2019 British MAG Foundation Squad Selection Announcement

As a result of his performances at British Elite Grade Finals, along with the results from a trial held at Lilleshall, we are extremely pleased to announce that Ben Scourse has been selected for the 2019 British MAGFoundation Squad. This is a fantastic achievement for Ben who is only 1 of 5 Welsh gymnasts selected for theBritish Squad programme. Ben will now attend training camps during the year at the Lilleshall National SportsCentre, where he will training alongside some of the best gymnasts and coaches in the country. A huge well done to Ben and his coaches!

2019 MAG Welsh and British Championships

Our MAG gymnasts competed in the 2019 Welsh Championship in February, with all the boys performing someimpressive routines and achieving some fantastic results. Highlights include:-

• Team 2nd in the U12’s category - Owain Lewis, Morgan Lucas, Evan Maddern and Ellis Baber

• Team 1st in the U14’s category - Harrison Harris, Charlie Williams, Will Wheeler and Harvey Gough

• Owain Lewis - 3rd AA in the U12’s category

• Harrison Harris - 3rd AA in the U14’s category

March 2019 saw some of MAG gymnasts attend the British Championships in Liverpool, competing againstBritains best In the respective age groups. All the boys who competed performed some fantastic routines,performing new skills and routines. Highlights include:-

• Morgan Lucas - 25th out of 74 gymnasts in the U12’s category

• Owain Lewis - 31sr of out of 74 gymnasts in the U12’s category

• Harrison Harris - 18th on Floor and 18th on High Bar out of 68 gymnasts in the U14’s category

A huge well done to all the boys and their coaches!

2019 Special Olympics World Games

As part the Special Olympics GB Team, VGA’s very own Bethany Paull achieved some incredible results at the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi. Bethany won the All Around competition, as well as gaining x2 gold and and x2 silver individual apparatus medals. This was a trip of a lifetime where Bethany was also selected to be the flag bearer for the GB Team. What an incredible achievement for Bethany and her coaches!

2019 WAG Regional Grades

At the South Central Regional Grades event in February 2019, the VGA girls had an outstanding performance, with a 100% pass rate and a large collection of medals and ribbons. Stand-out performances included:

• Morgan Treadgold - 1st AA in out of age Grade 5 • Madison Brown - 3rd AA in-age Grade 5 • Molly Watkins - 1st AA in in-age Grade 6 • Gen Hooper - 2nd AA in-age Grade 6 • Millie Cox - 3rd AA in-age Grade 6

Based upon their performance, Millie, Moly, Gen, Maddy and Gracie Owen were all selected to represent the South Central Area in the Welsh Finals. In the Finals, Millie took 3rd AA with Gen 4th and Molly 5th and their Grade 6 team took gold. At Grade 5, Maddy and Gracie contributed to a team bronze medal for SC.

At Regional Grades 3-1, the girls were again outstanding and all achieved a Highly Commended score or a Distinction. In addition, Lowri Ruddock took 3rd AA at Grade 3, Ellie Court was 1st AA at Grade 2 and at Grade 1 the girls dominated the podium with Aur Warren in 1st AA, Mya Davies in 2nd AA, Nia Rees in 3rd AA and Becky Thomas 4th AA.

At Regional Grades 6-3, the gymnasts representing St Tydfils also all achieved excellent passes - with most achieving Highly Commended scores. At out of age Grade 6 Evie Thyer and Lily Brogden-Giles took gold and silver (respectively) overall, as well as several apparatus medals. A large number of medals and ribbons were also collected by the girls taking their Regional Grade 4, including 2nd AA for Thalia Reynolds, 4th AA for4 Glesni Powell and 5th AA for Kaydee Bye - exceptional performances all round, well done to everyone!

2019 Annual Recreational Club Competition

Our annual Recreational Club Competition took place on the 24th of March at the Cwmbran Stadium in Torfaen. 530 young gymnasts from VGA, St Tydfils and Cwm Gymnastics took part in the event, showcasing their routines and skills on the floor and vault. A super hero themed event, the gymnasts also made posters of their favourite heroes, and some gymnasts came along in costume, really getting into the spirit of the event! We’ve had some fantastic feedback from the parents and families who were delighted to see their children perform confidently!
